Responses to a Student from his Mentor or Youth Group
Leader normally include suggestions of certain passages of
Scripture for the student to read. Students respond with a
revised answer after reading the suggested passages of
Scripture. The discussion continues to give the student
more opportunities to learn what the Bible teaches.
Other topics (not specifically related to the Bible) are
discussed alongside the Biblical questions to strengthen
the relationship between the Student and his Mentor or
Youth Group Leader.
Each student’s answers are permanently stored in his
file on the database, to show both his relationship with
his Mentor and Youth Group Leader, and his “Biblical
knowledge journey.”
The Have A Standard Foundation designs events that
facilitate interaction and communication between Students
and Mentors. We try to assign Mentors to Students whose age
matches the age of one of the Mentor's children, so that a
Mentor may bring his or her own child to the events. This
gives the Mentor the benefit of experiencing a rewarding
activity with his or her child, and enables the Mentor's
child to develop a relationship with the Student.
Youth Group Leaders who use this system can print questions
for the Student to take home, work on, and bring back to
the next Youth Group meeting.
Students who play on an athletic team have another
opportunity to answer the discussion questions: coaches who
use one of Have A Standard’s CROSSCHECK S.P.O.R.T.S.
manuals can give their players the questions to answer
between practice sessions.
One of the benefits of this tracking system is that it is
programmed to identify students whose knowledge of Biblical
standards increases. This allows Have A Standard to monitor
the work of Mentors, the growth of Students, and the
successfulness of the entire program.
